Cosmicity
In the cracks, I am still working on the music. Progress is slowly being made. I like the sound so far, but I fear it may be lyrically the saddest music I've ever produced. Can't be helped. Gotta write what you feel.

Good thing nobody listens to lyrics. I'm sure when it comes out I'll get lots of "I love to bounce around to that song" even though the lyrics are about giving up on life or some shit like that.

Also of note: The new Cosmicity album may not be called "Music for Headphones" anymore. I've made such a turn with the content that it doesn't seem to apply. My current working title for the EP (yes, an EP as opposed to a full length) is "ASCII Cupcake".

I actually have 3 up-and-running demo songs, so the next month or two might bring an audio sneak preview. Assuming I keep finding time to get little bits of work done, that is.

PS - There's a little glimmer of hope with Zoe this week. I'll write more about it next week if it holds true until then.

Whaaaaat, I totally listen to the lyrics. I actually think that lyrics are your strong point (not that everything else sucks, but yeah). Lyrics are also the reason why I buy the physical CD, because you might get lucky enough to have the lyrics printed inside the booklet and then you can read along with the song. Or maybe I'm just a nerd.

Hey, I TOTALLY agree with you... but most people just don't hear the words. That's the way it is. I mean, if they did, would 90% of the shit on the radio fly? I seriously doubt it!

Anyway, you'll still enjoy these lyrics... when you want to wallow in self misery. And really, who doesn't?

I am ALL about the self-misery these days. Bring it on!

I listen to lyrics... someone once pointed out that they don't even think most of the music I like is good, but the *lyrics* are, and because I'm a writer of all sorts of things, including lyrics, that's what I focus on and am drawn to in songs.

My ex, who was in a band, as you know... hid his lyrics. if you couldn't make something out, he wouldn't tell you. Not even me. That didn't make sense to me... why write it if you don't want people to know?

Good luck on the glimmer of hope, I'll be thinking of you guys and sending every bit of positive energy I can your way. You deserve this, and she deserves this. *hug*

Thanks Mark, good news all around. Sad lyrics are fine and I do pay attention to them as well. Please just do what's going to satisfy you in the end, try not to worry about what everyone will think, especially 14 year old kids who say "that's got some hot beats"

Your lyrics are what drew me to your work as Cosmicity, Mark.

Take your time, make your music right. When it's ready, release it.

Explore your sadness and use it for all it has to offer. People can relate to basic universal emotions, and you have a true gift of expressing yourself in words & music. As long as the song says what you're feeling, it has an audience.

Personally, some of my very very favorite songs are upbeat musically and depressing lyrically. The contrast makes for some fine tunes... Enjoy the Silence is basically about wishing you hadn't been told that things were over... it was better not knowing ("words like violence break the silence and come crashing in into my little world". Better the Devil You Know is about settling for less than you want and deserve, as long as the other person will come back to you ("I'll forgive and forget if you say you'll never go"). "Do Flies Walk Backward?" is about.. well... moonwalking flies. :)
